Today we want to take a closer look at the new SAP S/4HANA license definitions and show you how the changes will affect your business.

S/4HANA licenses – what’s new?

For those who don’t remember: in the current SAP erp price list and conditions list the two licenses S/4HANA Functional use and Productivity use got new, extended functionalities. In Functionality use we now find, among other things, extended authorizations in the processes Quality Engineering, Sales and Supply Chain. In the Productivity use license, extensions have been made in the delivery area.

Old vs. new definitions

Before we added the corresponding components to our templates, we started a comparison at one of our customers and performed the analysis with the old definitions. The test is quite representative, as the number of SAP users of this customer is well in the middle of most SAP customers’ company size.

Of course, we cannot promise that the changes we identified will be applicable to all samQ users, but there will certainly be good results, too. In the case of this customer there was a monetary improvement of almost 30% from his SAP S/4 Hana license cost.

Based on the experience of many samQ analyses, we can say that in some cases the total amount of SAP license costs can be directly reduced and the released amount can be used for other S/4HANA products. When migrating to S/4HANA, the entire old contract amount can be exchanged for credits and then used again.

Get an overview before your S/4HANA migration

If you are thinking about a S/4HANA migration, we highly recommend you to include such an analysis in your planning. It is the best option to optimize wrongly licensed users from the past. You can reuse the released funds. Companies that are currently working on the migration should definitely renegotiate and carry out an analysis of the effects of this change in definition.

With our SAP software asset management solution, samQ we support you in the process and are happy to help you with valuable tips on your negotiation strategy.
